The Greek Society of Cinematographers (GSC) has established an annual prize for best cinematography on a feature film.
So, as is the case in many other countries, DP’s vote on what, in their opinion, is the film with the best photo.
Candidates are fiction films and documentaries that have held at least one public screening last year. The decision is taken by secret ballot, which for reasons of validity is supervised by a lawyer. All cinematographers members of the GSC are eligible to vote.
Thus, in this year’s process, which included 34 films and documentaries, the GSC Prize is awarded to Christos Karamanis for the film “Wednesday 04:45”.
The “Wednesday 04:45”, an atmospheric and agonizing thriller, is the second creation of Alexis Alexiou after “History 52”. Carefully divided into chunky titles, elegantly dressed in dreamy retro music, rich in sarcastic dialogues and pop reports, dark and full of color, the film overflows with images that haunt the viewer’s mind, without sophistication, but with pure cinematic style. In the film, which is a Greek-German production, starred Stelios Maria, Maria Nafliotou, Dimitris Tzoumakis and Adam Bousdoukos (Soul Kitchen).
In the context of the award, the GSC awarded an honorary plaque to Yannis Manios and Ioannis Kalavitis for their over 20 years of continuous contribution to the field of cinema in our country.
We also cut off our Union pie. Petros Petropoulos won the flurry. We wish him the best of heart in 2017.
We thank Evi Massi who sang, Christina for the photo shoot, Olga Malea for the delicious appetizers and catering help and Dimitris Tsiambouris for the organization. All of them are united to offer the Union.
